He attended Pasadena City College and earned his AA January 13, 1948.  Then he went on to earn his Bachelors of Science Degree in business at the University of Southern California, January 25, 1950.  His working career spanned across a few companies like Ben Hur, Hermetic Seal, but his longest stint was at National Cash Register (NCR) where he served as Division Controller.

Dean married Charlotte I. Meidell in 1947.  Divorce followed shortly in 1950 but in March of 1954 he married Ima Daniels.  This marriage lasted over 50 years until Ima passed away on Christmas 2005.  Their life together was filled with trips within the United States but highlighted by their retirement home near Pine Flat Lake, just outside Fresno, California.  There they pursued boating, fishing, hunting, gardening, and large family gatherings throughout the year.
