Arthur “Art” P. Valladares

January 19, 1946 – November 6, 2023

Arthur “Art” P. Valladares peacefully passed away on November 6, 2023 in Bakersfield, California.

Art was born on January 19, 1946 to Braulio and Maria Valladares in Bakersfield, California.  He was the youngest of 6 children having 1 brother and 4 sisters.

He went to elementary school in Bakersfield and then graduated  from East Bakersfield High School in 1965.  Art was a student-athlete and enjoyed running cross-country.

In 1966 he married Rebecca Granillo.  Art and Becky had 3 beautiful daughters, Maria, Annette and Cynthia.  Art found immense joy in coaching his girls in Bobby Sox Softball and he loved traveling with them to their soccer tournaments.

Art’s professional career was spent working in the Department of Corrections. After 19 years he enjoyed a well-deserved retirement in 1986.  To keep himself busy and his spirit alive after retiring, he chose to work part-time at In-N-Out Burgers.

Following some time living in Las Vegas, Nevada, Art returned to Bakersfield in 2015.  His life was enriched through his many interests but none compared to the happiness he found when spending time with his girls, supporting his grandchildren, his great granddaughters, nieces and nephew, especially at their sporting events. His daughters and family were the most cherished part of his life.

An avid sports enthusiast, Art loved watching all types of sports but always held a particular fondness for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Art leaves a cherished legacy and is survived by his daughters Maria (Jesus), Annette (Nancy), and Cythnia (Carlos) all of Bakersfield, California.  Art’s memory is lovingly upheld by his grandchildren; Jennifer, Joseph, Alfredo, Alyssa, Anthony, and Gabrielle, his great granddaughters Jaylenn and Jiselle, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Braulio and Maria and his siblings; Joaquin Valladares (Mary Ellen), Rachel (Joe) Ramirez, Mary (Benny) Dominguez, Angie (Manuel) Melendez and Charlotte (Val) Alvidrez.

The passing of Art Valladares leaves a deeply felt void in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation and Rosary for Art will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.  A Catholic mass will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.  Both will be held at St. Francis Church 900 H Street.  His final resting place will be at Greenlawn South West Cemetery 2739 Panama Lane in Bakersfield.
