Barbara Sandrini, a devoted wife, Nonni, and tireless servant of her community, passed away on October 27, 2025 at the age of 77. Her life was marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to family, faith, and service.
Born on December 9, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Barbara grew up surrounded by family and values that would guide her throughout her life. She attended Duquesne University, where she received her degree in education. Shortly after graduation, Barbara accepted a teaching position in Arvin. What was meant to be just one year of teaching turned into a lifetime in California after she met the love of her life, Alvin Sandrini. The two married in 1971 and built their lives together in Bakersfield, where Barbara poured her heart into both her family and her community.
Barbara had a natural gift for service. She was active in the Golden Empire Gleaners, working to help provide food for those in need. After serving as President and longtime board member of GEG Barbara transferred her talents, dedication and commitment to helping others to the Assistance League of Bakersfield. Again, as President and longtime board member, Barbara worked tirelessly to shepherd the organization’s move from their old building on California Avenue to its current location on Q Street. The move required negotiations with city, state and federal agencies. Through each of these, Barbara touched countless lives, always giving freely of herself and asking little in return.
A lifelong Christian, Barbara lived her faith in quiet but powerful ways. She believed deeply in God’s promises and trusted Him in all things. Friends and family will remember her for her steady faith, gentle kindness, and the way she put others before herself. She lived not for recognition but out of love — love for God, love for her family, and love for her neighbors.
Barbara’s talents went far beyond the dedicated service to others. She was well known for her ability to crochet beautiful afghans and shawls which she made for friends and family, as well as donating numerous articles to philanthropic organizational fund raisers. Her stitcheries blest the walls of their home and Greenhorn cabin.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Alvin, son Rick, grandchildren Ricky Sandrini (Maygen), Keith Sandrini (Chelsey), Mary Margaret (Flynn) and Kaitlan Sandrini (Elliott)and five great grandchildren. She will also be remembered fondly by a wide circle of extended family and cherished friends who were blessed by her warmth, endearing smile, and generous spirit.
Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on November 6, 2025. Viewing will be at SEAS from 9:00-10:00, Rosary at 9:30, followed by Mass at 10:00, with burial to follow at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Barbara’s memory to the Assistance League of Bakersfield, PO Box 2286 Bakersfield CA 93303-2286
Barbara’s life was a testament to the power of faith and love. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of strength, kindness and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
