George Chris Drulias

October 24, 1960 — January 28, 2021

George passed away at the age of 60. He was one of two children born in Bakersfield to Chris and Anne Drulias. He attended Planz Elementary School, Greenfield Junior High School, South High School and Bakersfield Junior College. George was an altar boy at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church for many years, and he was a member of the Sons of Pericles. As a teenager, George worked seasonally at potato and grape sheds, worked at a tire shop and as a busboy at a restaurant. In his late teens, he started working at his dad’s liquor store, Chris’ Liquors, and continued working there for many years until his dad sold the store in 2006.

While working at the liquor store, George met Julie Hernandez and began their 16 year relationship eventually purchasing a home together. George and Julie lived happily until Julie’s untimely death in 2010. Julie’s passing hit George very hard and he never got over her death, but through the support of his family and good friends, he was able to make it through this tragedy.

When George was about 12, his dad started taking him and his younger brother, Tom, hunting. George  and his dad and brother would go dove and pheasant hunting with his uncle Alex, his cousin Gus, and his uncle Pete, and those were always great times. This started off George’s love for the outdoors, and over the years he became a very accomplished deer hunter and fisherman. He reached a point about 15 years ago, however, where he no longer enjoyed taking the life of an animal, so he stopped hunting completely. He still enjoyed camping, hiking, and observing wildlife.

George’s friends will tell you that he had a good heart and he was a good soul.

George was preceded in death by his long time companion, Julie, and his father, Chris. George is survived by his mother, Anne Drulias, brother Tom and sister-in-law Georgia Drulias of Bakersfield, CA., and nieces Anastasia and Alexsia. He is also survived by his very special aunt Denna Theodore of Bakersfield, CA. and aunts, uncles, and cousins from Bakersfield, Fresno, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, UT., Phoenix, AZ., Dallas, TX., and Athens, Greece.

The family would like to thank Father Joseph Chaffee of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, and would also like to thank very special friends Scott Akers, Dean and Christy Eads, Sergio Garcia, and Ted Maniates Jr.

Funeral will be held at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church on Saturday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. Due to Covid restrictions, only family will be present at the funeral and masks will be required. Donations can be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in memory of George Drulias.
