GLADYS DELFINO
August 10, 1930 – May 5, 2021
On Wednesday May 5, 2021, Gladys Betty (Luchetti) Delfino, beloved Wife, Mother, and Nonna passed away at age 90.
Gladys was born August 10th, 1930 in Bakersfield, CA to Carolina (Torigiani) and Piramo Luchetti. Gladys attended Buttonwillow School and then onto Bakersfield High School. She had a passion for art, which is why she attended beauty college at a young age to become a hairdresser. At around that time, on September 24,1949 she married the love of her life, Walter Eugene Delfino, and was married for 47 years. Gladys opened her own beauty salon in Buttonwillow, and soon after built her own shop behind her home. Walter owned land, and together they managed a family farm. They raised 2 children, Danny and Debra in Buttonwillow.
Gladys was a hairdresser for 49 years. She loved talking to her customers and had many lifelong friends. She was part of the Buttonwillow Pioneer Senior Citizens group for many years, as well as her bunco group that met monthly for many years. Cooking was her true passion. You did not want to miss when she was making her treasured biscotti or (secret) spaghetti sauce. She loved cooking with her grandchildren as well as entertaining for family and friends. She was very active in her community; she was on the National Health Services Board, Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Club, Bridge Club, and she was an usher at St. Philip the Apostle Church for 25 years. Gladys loved people, and never met a stranger. If you said you loved her red hair, she was your friend for life! We will miss her smile and her love for life.
Gladys is preceded in death by her father and mother, Piramo and Carolina Luchetti. Her husband Walter, son Danny, and brother, Randy Luchetti. She is survived by her daughter, Debra and son-in-law Louie Andreotti, her four grandchildren, Cristi, Mario, Angela (Jace) and Justin (Ashlee). Her great grandchildren, Samuel, Jack, Kendall, Lucas, Brandon, Jeremey, Amanda, Michaela, Ian, and Cash, and her sisters, Janette Palla (Fred) and Gloria Torigiani (Gene).
The Delfino/Andreotti family is grateful to their friends and family for their love and support and wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Brookdale Senior Assistant Living Nurses and caregivers for their wonderful care given to Gladys.
