KATHLEEN "KATHY" JUNE SEE-COTA
Kathy Cota, 68, of Bakersfield, CA passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20th at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, CA after a brief battle with cancer.
Kathy was born in Peru, Indiana to Roy Q. See and Barbara J. Baber-See on June 11,1954. She was the oldest of seven siblings.
From a young age Kathy always knew teaching was her calling - she had a long rewarding career as a teacher and mentor, working for BCSD, especially at Pioneer Drive Elementary and Fremont Elementary schools in Bakersfield. She was always a member of the Literacy Council to help bring books to her school. She loved to open young minds to the adventure of reading. She left an impression on many young people who remember her still today.
Kathy had a long time love of animals, especially her cats, cardinals, and critters of all sizes. She rescued and fostered numerous cats, always made sure they were well fed and loved.
Kathy enjoyed many days traveling the country, experiencing all that she could see, and marveling at all of God's creations. One of her favorite experiences was traveling to Europe with her sister and learning the educational system of the UK.
Kathy was a devout Catholic, after retiring from teaching she enjoyed volunteering at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She loved working in ministry and soon became president of the Altar Guild, a funeral coordinator, worked with special liturgies, lectored, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She also loved giving her time to the Reflections for Women non-profit organization as a committee member and will always be remembered for giving them their name.
Kathy will be missed by many friends and family who will always have fond memories of her. We will miss your famous eye rolls, teacher looks, and repeat TV shows!
She leaves behind her sisters, Roylene, Darlene, Jolene, and Colene; brothers Bill and Jim; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews all of whom she dearly loved, along with many cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, brother-in-law Richard, cousin Nicholas, uncle Jim, and aunt Janet.
