Lu-Ann Tedrow Hovis

August 29, 1936 — June 12, 2021

Lu-Ann Tedrow Hovis, age 84, passed away June 12, 2021. She was born on August 29, 1936, in Bakersfield, California, to Louis and Helen Tedrow.  Lu-Ann enjoyed a happy life in Bakersfield, attending school and graduating in 1954 from Bakersfield High School. While attending high school, she fell in love with the love of her life, James Dale Hovis, Jr., whom she would eventually marry. Together they had three children, Lauren, Greg, and Grant.  Throughout her life Lu-Ann loved to read, so it was very natural for her to work in various capacities at several different libraries throughout California and Utah.  Armed with her master's degree in Library Science, Lu-Ann worked up the chain to eventually become Head Librarian of one of the largest and busiest libraries in Sacramento, California.  With the family in tow, she enjoyed many happy camping and boating outings throughout scenic Northern California.  Lu-Ann was a co-business owner of a costume jewelry business.  She loved selling her pretty trinkets at various jewelry shows. Additionally, she loved  handling and “playing with” the pretty pieces.  Lu-Ann is preceded in death by her loving parents, adoring brother, Thomas R. Tedrow, and devoted husband, James Dale Hovis, Jr.. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Lu-Ann fought hard to overcome complications from Parkinson's disease and dementia, but on June 12, 2021, at a care facility in Pocatello, Idaho, she quietly slipped away from us.  A graveside service will take place on Friday, June 25, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., at Union Cemetery in Bakersfield, California.
