Mary was born July 2, 1922, in Bakersfield to Alessandro and Rose Marie Pacini. On July 2nd of this year, she happily celebrated her 100th birthday at Rice Bowl Restaurant with family and friends. Mary had an immense joy of life, sharp wit, and wonderful sense of humor. Never at a loss for words, Mary was also a good listener. With those traits, she made and kept friends of all ages. Always social, she loved being around other people, and especially enjoyed cooking and serving her pasta dinners. Mary was a member of St. Francis Golden Agers and was also a lifetime member of the Italian Heritage Association, earning their Woman of the Year award in 2016.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Alessandro and Rose Marie; beloved husband, Lawrence; brothers, Ernie and Leo Pacini; sister, Thelma Battistoni; daughter-in-law, Julie Battistoni; son-in-law, Richard Romanini; grandson, Robby Battistoni; and great-grandsons, Austin and Brandon Scherer.
Mary will be greatly missed by her son, Bob Battistoni; daughter, Judy Romanini; granddaughters, Gina (Tim) Meert, Staci (Rolf) Scherer, Tami (John) Rimmer; great grandchildren, Macy (Tucker) Stewart, Ally (Tyler) Hough, Madison Meert, Cameron Scherer, Dylan Scherer, Jake Rimmer; great-great grandchildren, Rowan Hough, Harper Hough; sister, Joyce (Gordon) Downs; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends near and far.
Visitation is scheduled Wednesday August 10th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Doughty-Calhoun-O’Meara. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday August 11th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 12300 Reina Road, Bakersfield, 93312. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Southwest.
