Michael Antongiovanni, beloved husband, father, grandfather “Nono”, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully July 4, 2025 at the age of 79.
Mike was born on May 17, 1946 to David and Rose Antongiovanni in Bakersfield. He attended St. Francis School and Garces Memorial High School. This was where he formed lasting friendships with people who would become the fabric of his life. He continued on to Bakersfield College, Fresno State and CSUB. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis Church.
Mike married Lizann Alford in December 1968. They have four sons: Mike, Joe, Tom, and Ben.
After graduation Mike worked in the agricultural industry before going into the irrigation business. However, farming was always his desire. He proceeded to run his various farming operations over many years and grew cotton, carrots, alfalfa and other crops.
Mike enjoyed all the many activities his boys and grandchildren have participated in over the years; attending sporting events, school assemblies, birthdays, holiday gatherings and family vacations.
In addition to his family, he loved spending time getting to know people, which could be seen in the wide range of friends he made over the years. Throughout his life he enjoyed nothing more than gathering with friends. He had a lifelong poker group made up of his dearest friends. He was a fixture at various coffee shops over the decades. In retirement he met friends each morning for bagels and conversation, attended daily noon mass at St. Francis, and lunch at Wool Growers.
Mike is survived by his wife Lizann, and his four sons: Mike (Amy), Joe, Tom (Johnna), Ben (Jennifer). His grandchildren: Jack, Sam, Dylan, Joe (Ashley), Emma, Carly, Nick, Trent, Mark, Jeff, Allison, Emily, and his great-grandson Peter. He is also survived by his sisters: Nancy Turnipseed (Mike), Carolyn Antongiovanni, Barbara Antongiovanni, and Birdie DelPapa (Steve), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his parents David and Rose, in-laws Bart and Jimmie, older sister Patty, brother-in-law Bob and nephews David and Paul.
The family would like to thank his doctors and the amazing staff at Hoffmann Hospice for their exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Garces Memorial High School at 2800 Loma Linda Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93305.
Rosary and Funeral will be at St Francis Church on July 17th at 10:00 AM.
