Stephen Monroe Baker was born in Bakersfield, CA on September 27th 1947 to Shirley Ann and George Monroe Baker. Stephen was one of seven brothers and sisters; Bob, Beverly, Mike, Pam, Billy Joe, and Terri. Survived by Pam Baillargeon and Terri Smoot. He was married 23 years to Debra Morgan and they had two Children Robert Ryan Baker and Jennifer Rose Ward. He has two Granddaughters Mikayla Faith Brancato and Hannah Rose Cannon. Great Grandson Vincent Brancato and Grandson-in-law Tanner Brancato, expecting another great grandson by granddaughter Hannah Cannon and Brody Hebbard, which he expressed his great joy and excitement about. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews that he adored and loved dearly.
After enlisting for 6 years in the United States Marine Corps Stephen was injured and received an honorable medical discharge and later went on to become a landscaper and journeyman pipe fitter, where he worked for landscape companies throughout Bakersfield even owning his own landscape business in his early years of the trade.
In October of 1977 he and Debra (the mother of his children) gave their hearts to Jesus Christ, whom he called his Lord and Savior. Later becoming a street evangelist and licensed street minister where he felt the lord called him to go out into the highways and byways and compel them to come in to a relationship with Jesus Christ. He always said the lord told him to “Love them into my kingdom because love conquers all. His heart was drawn to Veterans, the homeless and really just anyone.
After years of health problems he moved in with his daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Douglas where he spent the remaining years of his life in Lake Isabella, CA enjoying the lake , family get togethers and making friends with their dog Jenny. He always expressed his great love of his son, daughter, grandchildren, and being a great grand-papa! Never to forget his love of cheeseburgers and biscuits and gravy!
He could always make us laugh, was always ready to listen and pray for us.
Stephen Baker went to be with Jesus peacefully with his family surrounding him on January 29th 2026 and will forever live in our hearts.
