Virginia "Gina" Devin

December 11, 1939 — November 27, 2021

Virginia Maye Devin (Gina) was born on December 11, 1939, in Arvin, California to Lloyd and Alma Baker and was one of three children. She passed away on November 27, 2021, in Bakersfield, California at the age of 81.

Gina is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charles Devin, son Jimmy Devin (wife Angela Devin), grandchildren Ashley Devin, Jordan Azevedo, Hunter Devin & Claire Pratt.

Gina was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Alma Baker, brothers Jerry Baker and Doug Baker.

Gina attended local schools and graduated from East Bakersfield High School. As a young woman, she worked for Brock’s Department Store where she was a clothing buyer. She often told the story that she loved shopping there so much that it was hard to have a paycheck left at the end of the month.

In 1970 Gina married Charles Wayne Devin. For their honeymoon, they backpacked and fished the upper forks of the Kern River. They made their home in Rosedale where they raised their son, Jimmy. Their home sat on one acre of property where they had horses for many years. They used the horses for hunting and ranching. They also ran cattle on leased property in Kelso Valley where they enjoyed watching their herd grow and holding brandings with family and friends. They were a family who had a passion for hunting. They traveled out of state yearly for the annual Deer/Elk season where Gina hunted alongside her husband and son. In addition to California, they hunted in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah & Wyoming. Jimmy recalls that she shot several ‘really good bucks’ during her time. Gina was able to be part of the annual family hunting trip until she was 79 years old.

In 1980 Gina joined her husband as an employee of Granite Construction. She worked as a weighmaster for the next 18 years, retiring in 1998.

Gina was generous and kind and led a long, happy, full life. She will be dearly missed and will be forever in our hearts.
