Virginia (Snitter) Nell O’Donnell (nee Turner) was born on March 21, 1932 and raised in Bakersfield. She passed away in Bakersfield on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the age of 91. Snitter graduated from Garces High School in 1950. Her post high school studies included attending the University of Hawaii Nursing Program on Oahu, Bakersfield College and Liberal Studies at Cal State Bakersfield.
Her volunteer services included serving for 25 years on the Ladies’ Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) at Mercy Hospital. She also helped out with the Candy Stripers at Mercy Hospital as well. Another volunteer service was cleaning and ironing the altar linens weekly at St. Joseph Church for 25 years.
Snitter is survived by her three children, Dr. Kelly O’Donnell, William (Bill) O’Donnell and wife, Terrie; Casey Scott; daughter-in-law, Nancy O’Donnell; son-in-law, Todd Hansen; sister, Janice (Perky) King; along with eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and another on the way. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jo Ann Marchbanks; many nieces, nephews and much family. Her husband, William (Bill) O’Donnell preceded her in death in 2018; son, Thomas (Tom) O’Donnell, preceded her in death in 2006; her daughter, Molly Hansen preceded her in death in 2022; as well as her sister, Gay Robinson in 2023.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 9:30am on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, followed by Mass at 10:00am at St. Francis Church on 900 H Street in Bakersfield, CA 93304. A Traditional Latin Requiem Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Gustavo López, OSJ. Burial will be at 12:30pm at Bakersfield National Cemetery 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin, CA.
